Playing Online Backgammon for Fun Questions for you online backgammon players:
- Do you play for real money or for play/fictional/virtual/fun money?
- And if you don't play for real, how often do you use the doubling cube?
I started thinking about it after reading Pokeriot comparison between play money backgammon and play money poker. To his opinion, playing online backgammon for fictional money does not destroy the fun in the game, but the other way around – when people do not risk their mortgages to play a game, their game is freer and wilder, meaning they have an easy hand on the doubling cube. As opposed to poker, which when played for real money, feels like watching your favorite soccer team wins a friendly game. Except for the joy of victory, what else is there to expect?
Another plus to fun backgammon account is that using the cube when playing online or live without getting in touch with your bank account on the way, does make the cube decision less risky (from the second re-double and on even the lowest-stake game can become expensive), and at the same time requires no less strategy and calculation then a real money backgammon game.
