Play Backgammon at the Community Pub of the Year

Where can you play backgammon in Liverpool and sip a pint of Tetley Cask at the same time?

The Willow Bank in Smithdown Road, Wavertree, Liverpool, is this year winner of the Community Pub of The Year award by Camra’s Liverpool and Districts branch. So, what makes a local pub so favorable by its customers? The Liverpool Echo asked Paula Culvin, the licensee of the chosen venue, and learned that a popular community pub has to offer large selection of brews and dedicate as many games eves and themes nights as possible. To reach the common ground among the Willow Bank regulars - with college students, pensioners and everything in between among them – the local pub hosts a weekly quiz night and occasional drum n' bass and backgammon nights. However, the community remembers most fondly the retro games night held recently, games such as KerPlunk and Guess Who? were played and sweets such as chocolate mice were served.
