PartyGammon

PartyGammon is the new "party gaming" 3D backgammon software. The sounds are great and so are the looks and the usability. The rating system is good although there is no special rating for new users - which could be a problem because a new good player has the same rating as a long term player who doesn't know how to play.

As with other backgammon sites, in order to play an account needs to be created. This Party account can be used for every brand of PartyGaming and your real balance can therefore be used to play backgammon, but also for the casino, to play poker and to play bingo. You can fund the account using a creditcard (Visa, Mastercard), FPS-ePassport, Entropay, NETeller, Money Transfer, Bank Wire Transfer and Moneybookers. The minimum deposit amount is $50.

As can be viewed below, in the topleft corner are the account details: nickname, real balance and PartyPoints. Underneath this are the latest News and Events that PartyGammon brings.

In the middle column you can choose a category in which you like to play a game, let it be real money or play money. In these categories you can choose between BackGammon, Hypergammon and Nackgammon. The right column gives you a list of the games that are currently being played and games that are waiting for an opponent to join. If you like to play you can either create a new game, or join a waiting player. When you have decided which game to play and you found an opponent, the backgammon board appears.

The main downfall to the site is that shows it carries the poker mentality. It is possible to participate in up to 4 backgammon games at once. While it is common to play multiple poker games (poker being a game where players will often fold early then wait for the next hand, so they want the action of being in multiple games), that is not too practical for backgammon. Other features lacking are auto bearoff, automatic play of forced moves, and autoroll when you cannot double. Overall the site is on the slow side.
