Portuguese Open 2006 - Final Results

The event took place from September 20th to 24th, 2006 in Estoril, in the foyer of Europe's largest casino, with a breath taking view of the gardens and the fountains, facing the ocean. 

The World Backgammon Association (WBA), leading promoter of the game and the sponsors, Casino Estoril and the Estoril Tourism Board were delighted to welcome players representing 17 nations as well as 37 local players from Portugal to the three divisions (Amateur, Intermediate, Champion) and the Doubles Consultation, and to compete for a total prize money of nearly 50,000 Euro.

This event contributed a lot to revitalize Backgammon as a skill game in Portugal and there are talks to create a national Federation in Lisbon as part of the WBA.

Foreign players, coming from as far as Japan and the USA enjoyed the Portuguese hospitality, the climate and landscapes of the Estoril region, the historical and cultural sites and the leisure activities.
