Mind Sports Centre to Revive Whitley Bay?

Forming a Mind Sports Centre in the heart of the northern seaside town of Whitley Bay, is one of the suggestions lay in the online petition prepared by the Culture Quarter Company. The online petition is part of the Culture Quarter Company efforts to revive Whitley Bay and the British seaside in general as a popular domestic tourism destination.

The projected Mind Sports Centre, planned to be located at the Whitley Bay's Dome will be a center for skill games for all ages such as chess, backgammon and scrabble. The Culture Quarter Company, who conceived and formulated the plan, hopes that a Mind Sports Centre would attract the professional and amateur mind sportspeople from all over the country to Whitley Bay, making it an alternative, family-friendly summer resort and a counterweight to the seaside casino resorts.

Whitley Bay future plans described at the online petition are already supported by the citizens, accumulating about 200 signatures within a week. Yet, the Prime Minister's support is required for the plans to become real. And since the short and convenient procedure of online petitioning leads to overflow of petitions waiting in queue, it may take awhile before Whitley Bay's first backgammon tournament will be organized.
