First Backgammon TV Presenter almost wins Irish Poker OpenThe backgammon and poker presenter Kara Scot finished second at the 2009 Irish Poker Open Tournament final table. The British host of the first season World Series of Backgammon was defeated by Swedish poker pro Christer Johansson who took home the grand prize of €600,000, while Scot had to settle for a humble check on €312,600.
The 2009 Irish Poker Open is not the first poker event in which the final table contains celebrated backgammon figures. The runner up in this poker tournament became famous for groundbreaking the then virgin land of backgammon on TV.
In 2005, she presented High Stakes Backgammon, the primary backgammon TV series that followed the World Backgammon Championship with commentaries by UK backgammon expert John Clark and American backgammon legend (and currently a poker pro himself) Paul Magriel. In 2006, she hosted the World Series of Backgammon, following the first season of the tour, filmed in Cannes, France.
Kara Scot, formerly a professional Muay Thai boxer, made her poker debut at the PartyPoker.net Women's World Open in 2007, playing along actress Shannon Elizabeth (American Pie, That 70s Show), European Ladies champion Jackie Meecham and won by Bev Pace, who was granted the $50,000, small change comparing to the prizes won by gender unbiased pro poker events. Thus, to grab the big bucks, Scot had to play with the boys, an effort that proved to be worthwhile.
