2009 British Open Backgammon Tournament Results

The 18th British Open, one of the longer running backgammon tournaments in the UK, took place on the first weekend of April 2009 at the Barcelo Daventry Hote, with about 70 entrants, less than expected who came all the way from the UK, Italy, Germany, and even Japan.

The 2009 British Open was won by British Jon Barnes, a veteran BIBA British Isles Backgammon Association tournaments player, who outplayed Gaz Owen at the 5-points final and gathered 32 Grand Prix points. It was the first major victory for Barnes, who has been playing backgammon for 25 years. He and the Consolation, Last Chance, poker and other events' winners, took home the traditional sandglass trophy and a fine bottle of wine.
