On top of the championship division, won by Ray Glaeser and finalized by Greg Merriman and the advanced division (topped by Barry Miller who was followed by Eric Barr), the 2008 ABT Midwest Backgammon Championship featured an open doubles event, a first children's tournament and even a "Battle of the Sexes" tourney.
In the "Battle of the Sexes" backgammon tournament, despite the numeric advantage enjoyed by the male sex (32 men vs. 11 women), the tournament was won by a representative of the second sex, one Roz Ferris of California. The winner of the children tournament was Philip Ring who took home an iPod. 10 years old backgammon prodigy Lyle Rubin had to suffice with the number 1 at the children's tournament consolation division.
